Abstract Wallet Guide: Bridge Your ETH Off Before Dec 15
Updated , 8 minute read
An Abstract wallet is your 0x address on Abstract, a consumer-focused ZK Stack layer 2 backed by the team behind Pudgy Penguins. Abstract announced in October 2026 that it is shutting down, and funds not moved off the chain by December 15, 2026 become inaccessible. Keylo can show your Abstract balance and quote bridges to other networks, so you can move ETH and tokens out well before the deadline.

Abstract is shutting down: the dates that matter
On October 6, 2026, Abstract announced that it is winding down the network, citing slower growth, thin liquidity and tough competition among layer 2 networks. The team set December 15, 2026 as the final date: assets still on Abstract after that are expected to become inaccessible, and no extension has been announced. This is a permanent closure, not a pause.
If you hold anything on Abstract, plan to move it now rather than in December. Bridges get busier near deadlines, some app tokens and NFTs need extra steps, and the native bridge adds a waiting period. Start with your most valuable assets, confirm each transfer arrives, then clean up the rest.
Choose the destination with costs in mind. Ethereum mainnet is the default for the native bridge, but using funds there costs mainnet gas, which can eat into small balances. For modest amounts, bridging to a low-fee network such as Base or Arbitrum keeps more of your money and still lets you move to Ethereum later. Your 0x address is the same on all of them, so nothing new needs to be set up.
What Abstract is and how it worked
Abstract launched on mainnet in January 2025 as a consumer chain from Igloo, the company behind Pudgy Penguins. It is built on the ZK Stack, the same technology as ZKsync Era, so batches of transactions are proven with zero-knowledge proofs and settled on Ethereum. Fees are paid in ETH, and the chain focused on games, NFTs, social apps and memecoins rather than heavy DeFi.
Its signature product was the Abstract Global Wallet, a smart contract wallet you could open with an email, social login or passkey instead of a recovery phrase. Many people used Abstract only through that wallet, and apps could sponsor their gas. That convenience matters now, because funds in an Abstract Global Wallet live at a different address from any wallet you control with a recovery phrase, and they need to be moved through that wallet.
Your Keylo address versus your Abstract Global Wallet
In Keylo, your Abstract address is a regular 0x account derived from your recovery phrase, the same address you have on Ethereum and every other EVM network. If you used Abstract with MetaMask or another phrase-based wallet, importing that phrase into Keylo shows the same first address and its Abstract balance.
An Abstract Global Wallet is different. It is a contract account controlled through your login, not through a 12-word phrase, so it cannot be imported into Keylo. If your funds are there, sign in to your Abstract Global Wallet and either bridge from it directly using Abstract's tools, or send the assets to your Keylo Abstract address and bridge from Keylo. Contract addresses on ZK Stack chains also differ from Ethereum, so never assume a smart wallet exists at the same address on another network.
Open your Abstract address in Keylo
- 1
Go to Keylo and create a wallet, or import the 12 or 24-word phrase from the wallet you used on Abstract.
- 2
Confirm your email and set a strong password. Your phrase is encrypted in your browser and never sent to Keylo in readable form.
- 3
Select Abstract in the network list and check the 0x address against the one you used before.
- 4
If the balance is empty, check whether your assets are actually in an Abstract Global Wallet or an app account.
- 5
Note your Ethereum, Base or Arbitrum balance too, since that is where your Abstract funds will go.
How to bridge ETH off Abstract with Keylo
Keylo's quotes come from LI.FI, which aggregates audited bridges and exchanges, and THORChain for native cross-chain swaps. If a cross-chain route cannot complete, the protocol refunds the sending wallet. As the shutdown approaches, bridge providers may drop Abstract; if no route appears for an asset, use Abstract's official tools instead. Do not wait to find out in December.
- 1
Open Swap and bridge in Keylo and choose Abstract as the source network.
- 2
Pick the asset, such as ETH or USDC, and choose the destination network, for example Ethereum, Base or Arbitrum. Your destination address is the same 0x address.
- 3
Review the quote: route, expected output, minimum received and every fee, including any small service fee.
- 4
Confirm and keep enough ETH on Abstract to pay the transaction fee.
- 5
Track the bridge in Keylo until it lands, then check the balance on the destination network.
Other ways out: the Migration Hub and native bridge
Abstract's Migration Hub is its main interface for the shutdown, and its native bridge withdraws to Ethereum through the chain's own contracts. Because Abstract is a ZK rollup, there is no week-long challenge period, but the native bridge adds an execution delay, quoted at a few hours and recently raised to as much as a day, before you can finalize on Ethereum. Both tools are web apps that connect to a browser wallet.
Abstract also pointed users to third-party bridges such as Stargate, Relay and Jumper. Whichever route you choose, send a small amount first, confirm it arrives, then move the rest. Keep some ETH on Ethereum if you use the native bridge, since finalizing there costs mainnet gas.
If you connect a browser wallet to these tools using the same recovery phrase you use in Keylo, the funds land at the same 0x address, and Keylo shows them on the destination network. Only install wallet extensions from their official sources, because fake extensions are one of the most common ways people lose funds during migrations.
Sending ETH on Abstract, and why not to receive new funds
Sending on Abstract is mainly useful for consolidating funds into one account before bridging. Do not ask anyone to pay you on Abstract now. If you must receive there, for example when an app returns funds, Keylo works as usual: open Abstract, tap Receive and share the address labeled Abstract, then bridge the funds out right away.
- 1
Open Abstract in Keylo and choose ETH or a token.
- 2
Paste the destination address or scan a QR code. Keylo checks the checksum and warns you about contract addresses.
- 3
Enter an amount or tap Max to keep ETH for the fee.
- 4
Pick a fee speed, review the network fee and exact amount, and confirm.
Fees on Abstract
Abstract uses the ZK Stack fee model, paid in ETH. You pay for computation and proving plus pubdata, the state changes published to Ethereum. Like ZKsync Era, Abstract charges the maximum a transaction might need and refunds unused gas, so the final fee is often below the estimate. Inside the Abstract Global Wallet, apps could sponsor fees through paymasters; from Keylo you pay normally from your ETH balance.
Keep a small ETH balance until you finish leaving. A wallet holding only tokens cannot bridge them, because the bridge transaction itself needs gas. If you are down to tokens only, ask someone to send a little ETH on Abstract, or move it from your Abstract Global Wallet first. Keylo shows the network fee before you confirm and adds nothing to normal sends.
Tokens and NFTs on Abstract
Keylo can show and send ERC-20 tokens on Abstract, but whether you can take a token with you depends on bridge and exchange support. ETH and major stablecoins have the most routes. Memecoins and app tokens that only trade on Abstract may have no route at all, so decide early whether to swap them into ETH or a stablecoin while liquidity still exists on Abstract.
NFTs and in-game items need their own plan. Some projects support moving collections to another chain; others do not. Check each project's official announcements, and expect that items with no migration path may lose access when the chain stops. Keep your own records of transactions for tax purposes, because explorers may not stay online.
Safety during the Abstract shutdown
- Move funds early; congestion and rushed decisions cause most mistakes.
- Use only migrate.abs.xyz, native-bridge.abs.xyz or reputable bridges you open yourself.
- Ignore DMs offering help with migration. Real support never asks for your phrase or login codes.
- Check where your funds actually are: Keylo address, Abstract Global Wallet or an app account.
- Send a test amount before every large bridge.
- Read how Keylo protects your wallet before importing any recovery phrase.
Frequently asked questions
When does Abstract shut down?
Abstract announced on October 6, 2026 that it is winding down and set December 15, 2026 as the deadline to move assets off the chain. Funds not moved by then are expected to become inaccessible, and no extension has been announced. Move assets as early as possible, using Keylo's bridge, the Migration Hub or the native bridge.
Can Keylo bridge my funds off Abstract?
Yes, while bridge providers still support Abstract. Keylo's swap and bridge feature quotes routes from LI.FI and THORChain, showing fees and minimum received before you confirm. If no route appears for an asset, use Abstract's official Migration Hub or native bridge. Funds must be at your Keylo address, not in an Abstract Global Wallet.
Can I import my Abstract Global Wallet into Keylo?
No. The Abstract Global Wallet is a smart contract wallet controlled through an email, social login or passkey, not a recovery phrase. Sign in to it and bridge from it with Abstract's tools, or send its contents to your Keylo Abstract address and bridge from Keylo. Check that you send on Abstract itself.
How long does the Abstract native bridge take?
Abstract is a ZK rollup, so there is no seven-day challenge period. The native bridge still applies an execution delay before a withdrawal can be finalized on Ethereum, quoted at around three hours and raised to up to a day in October 2026. Liquidity bridges usually deliver within minutes.
What happens to my NFTs and memecoins on Abstract?
It depends on each project. Some NFT collections and tokens may offer migration to another chain, while others will have no path off Abstract. Check official project channels now, and consider swapping tokens with no bridge route into ETH or a stablecoin while there is still liquidity on Abstract.
