BNB Smart Chain Wallet: Send BNB and BEP-20 Tokens Safely

Updated , 8 minute read

A BNB Smart Chain wallet controls a 0x address that holds BNB and BEP-20 tokens, and signs the transactions that move them on BSC. Keylo creates the wallet in your browser, shows the BNB gas cost before every transaction, and lets you swap and bridge BNB through decentralized routing. Keep some BNB for gas, select BNB Smart Chain or BEP-20 when withdrawing, and stay away from tokens you cannot sell.

What is BNB Smart Chain and how is it different from Ethereum?

BNB Smart Chain, often shortened to BSC, is an EVM-compatible blockchain with chain ID 56 and BNB as its gas token. It runs Ethereum's virtual machine, so the same contracts, tokens and addresses work, but it uses a different security model: Proof of Staked Authority, where a set of validators elected by BNB stakers takes turns producing blocks.

That design trades some decentralization for speed and low fees. After the Fermi hard fork in January 2026, BSC produces a block about every 0.45 seconds and targets finality in around a second. It is popular for low-cost token transfers, DeFi, games and as a route for moving stablecoins between exchanges. In Keylo you can hold and send BNB and BEP-20 tokens on BSC, swap or bridge them, and bump a stuck transaction.

BSC addresses, and the retired BNB Beacon Chain

On BSC your address is the same 0x address Keylo uses for Ethereum and every other EVM network, on the MetaMask-compatible path m/44'/60'/0'/0/0. Keylo shows it with checksum capitalization and validates the checksum when you paste an address. Balances are separate per network, so BNB on BSC and ETH on Ethereum sit at one address but on different chains.

Older guides mention addresses starting with bnb1 and tokens called BEP-2. Those belonged to the BNB Beacon Chain, which was retired in 2024 when its functions were folded into BSC. If anyone asks you to use a bnb1 address or a memo for BNB today, treat it as outdated or suspicious, and use BNB Smart Chain instead.

Like any EVM network, BSC has contract addresses as well as personal ones. Keylo warns you when the address you are sending to is a contract, which catches the costly mistake of pasting a token contract instead of a person's wallet.

How to create a BNB Smart Chain wallet with Keylo

If you used MetaMask or Trust Wallet on BSC, import their 12- or 24-word phrase to see the same first 0x address. Extra accounts at higher indexes will not appear. Because the same address works on every EVM network, your BSC balance and your Ethereum balance show up under their own networks in Keylo once imported.

  1. 1

Visit Keylo's registration page in a browser on your phone or computer.

  2. 2

Register with your name, email, phone number and password, then confirm your email.

  3. 3

Keylo's web app produces a 12-word phrase on the spot and wraps it in encryption tied to your password; the servers receive only that wrapped copy.

  4. 4

Open BNB Smart Chain in your assets. Your 0x address appears with the network label.

  5. 5

In Settings, re-enter your password, reveal the phrase and write it down. Keep the paper offline.

How to receive BNB and BEP-20 tokens

Exchanges list many networks that accept a 0x address, and the names are easy to confuse. BEP20 means BNB Smart Chain. ERC20 means Ethereum, where fees are higher. opBNB is a separate layer 2 network built on BSC. If you pick one of those by mistake, the funds still reach your 0x address, but on that network rather than BSC, so look for them under the matching network in Keylo.

  1. 1

Choose BNB, or the BEP-20 token you are expecting, then Receive.

  2. 2

Share the 0x address by copying it or showing its QR code.

  3. 3

Ask the sender to withdraw on BNB Smart Chain, usually labelled BSC or BEP20.

  4. 4

Check Activity. Transfers typically appear within a second or two and link to BscScan.

How to send BNB

BSC confirms transactions very quickly, so you rarely wait. If one does stay pending, use Keylo's speed-up option, which rebroadcasts it with a higher gas price under the same nonce. Once included in a block, a transfer is final. Tokens always need a little BNB for gas, so a wallet holding only USDT cannot move it until some BNB arrives.

  1. 1

Pick BNB or a BEP-20 token and press Send.

  2. 2

Enter the destination 0x address by pasting it or scanning a QR code.

  3. 3

Enter the amount, or tap Max. For BNB, Max keeps back enough for gas.

  4. 4

    Choose slow, normal or fast.

  5. 5

Check the review screen, which lists the recipient, the exact amount and the gas fee in BNB.

  6. 6

Confirm to sign in your browser and broadcast.

BSC gas fees explained

BSC uses the same gas accounting as Ethereum. A plain BNB transfer costs 21,000 gas, a BEP-20 transfer typically 45,000 to 65,000, and swaps more. The fee is gas used multiplied by the gas price in gwei, paid in BNB. BSC's gas prices are far lower than Ethereum's, so everyday transfers usually cost a tiny fraction of a BNB, though complex contract calls cost more.

Validators collect the fees, and part of BSC's gas fees is also burned under the network's ongoing burn mechanism. Keylo's speed options set the gas price you offer, and the summary shows the exact fee before you sign. Keylo adds no fee of its own to normal sends.

Because blocks arrive so quickly, the slow option on BSC is rarely slow in practice; it simply offers a lower gas price that may wait a few extra blocks during busy moments. The fast option is useful when the network is congested by a popular token launch, which on BSC can happen suddenly.

BEP-20 tokens: USDT, USDC and honeypots

BEP-20 is BSC's token standard and is compatible with Ethereum's ERC-20. Most USDT and USDC on BSC are Binance-Peg tokens, issued on BSC and backed by reserves held by Binance, rather than issued directly by Tether or Circle as on Ethereum. They usually trade one to one, but they are separate tokens from the Ethereum versions, so moving them between chains needs a bridge or an exchange.

Token creation on BSC is cheap, and honeypot tokens are a well-known problem: tokens whose contracts let you buy but block you from selling, or charge huge hidden taxes. Keylo lists the tokens your address holds, but a balance is not proof of value. Check the contract on BscScan, look for the official contract from the project's own site, and never buy a token because it was airdropped to you. Scam projects also deploy look-alike copies of well-known tokens; the copy shares the name and logo but not the contract address, which is why the address is the only thing worth checking.

Swap BNB and bridge to other networks

Keylo includes in-wallet swaps and bridges for BSC. LI.FI aggregates decentralized exchanges on BSC and audited bridges to networks such as Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base and Solana, while THORChain swaps native BNB directly for coins like BTC or ETH on their own chains. Each quote spells out the path, the output you can expect, the minimum you will accept and all fees, with any Keylo service fee listed separately. See swap and bridge.

Swapping a BEP-20 token may first need an approval that lets the routing contract move that token. Bridges take longer than swaps because the destination chain must confirm; Keylo shows progress until the funds arrive. Should a cross-chain route fail, the bridge protocol sends the funds back to your wallet on BSC.

Practise on BSC Testnet

Turn on Testnet mode in Settings and Keylo adds BSC Testnet, where test BNB from the official faucet has no value. It is a good place to practise sending BNB and tokens, watching gas, and using the speed-up option. Your 0x address is the same on testnet and mainnet, so confirm that Keylo's network label reads BNB Smart Chain, not BSC Testnet, whenever you hand out the address or move real BNB.

BNB Smart Chain safety tips

  • Never buy or interact with tokens airdropped to you. Many are honeypots or lead to draining sites.
  • Check BEP-20 contract addresses on BscScan before accepting a token as payment.
  • Copy addresses from the original source, not your history, to avoid address-poisoning scams.
  • Keep some BNB for gas so your tokens are never stuck.
  • Secure the account itself with authenticator-app codes and an anti-phishing code; Keylo security shows how.
  • Ignore anyone asking you to use a bnb1 address or BEP-2 network. Those are retired.

Frequently asked questions

Is BEP20 the same as BNB Smart Chain?

Yes, for choosing a network. BEP-20 is the token standard on BNB Smart Chain, so an exchange withdrawal labelled BEP20 goes to BSC. Your Keylo 0x address receives it under BNB Smart Chain. BEP-2 was the standard of the retired BNB Beacon Chain and should not be used today.

Is my BSC address the same as my Ethereum address?

Yes. Keylo uses one 0x address for all EVM networks, including Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain. Balances are separate, though: BNB on BSC appears under BNB Smart Chain, and ETH on Ethereum appears under Ethereum. Each network also needs its own gas token for transactions.

Why can't I send my USDT on BSC?

Most likely you have no BNB for gas. Every transaction on BSC, including token transfers, pays its fee in BNB. Send or withdraw a small amount of BNB to the same 0x address on BNB Smart Chain, and you will be able to move your USDT.

How fast is BNB Smart Chain?

Very fast. Since the Fermi hard fork in January 2026, BSC produces a block about every 0.45 seconds and aims for finality in around a second. Most transfers show as confirmed in Keylo almost immediately. Exchanges may still wait for a number of blocks before crediting a deposit.

Can I see NFTs on BNB Smart Chain in Keylo?

Keylo shows BNB and BEP-20 tokens on BSC, with swaps, bridges and transaction speed-up. NFT display is not currently available for BSC in Keylo. Any NFTs at your address still belong to you on chain and can be viewed on BscScan or in apps that support them.
