Cronos Wallet: Send, Receive and Swap CRO on Cronos EVM

Updated , 8 minute read

A Cronos wallet holds CRO and tokens on Cronos EVM, the Ethereum-compatible chain in the Crypto.com ecosystem. Keylo creates the wallet in your browser, gives you a 0x address and signs every transaction locally with CRO paying gas. The one rule to remember is that Cronos EVM is not Cronos POS, so always pick the EVM network for withdrawals.

What is Cronos EVM?

Cronos EVM is an Ethereum-compatible layer 1 chain that sits alongside the Crypto.com exchange and app. It is built with the Cosmos SDK and secured by validators running CometBFT consensus, which gives each block instant finality once it is committed, while the execution layer speaks the same language as Ethereum. Smart contracts, wallets and tools written for Ethereum work with little or no change.

CRO is the native coin and pays every gas fee. People use Cronos EVM for DEX trading, lending, games and NFT projects, and as a cheap route to move CRO and stablecoins out of Crypto.com. Upgrades added parallel transaction execution and, in mid-2025, cut average block times from about five and a half seconds to under one, so transactions now land almost as soon as you send them.

Because Cronos EVM is EVM-compatible, the same recovery phrase and 0x address you use for Ethereum also work here, but the balances are completely separate. CRO on Cronos, CRO as a token on Ethereum and CRO inside your exchange account are three different things, and the network you choose when moving it decides where it ends up.

Cronos EVM, Cronos POS and Cronos zkEVM

The Cronos name covers more than one network, and this is where most mistakes happen. Cronos EVM (chain ID 25) is the chain Keylo supports, with 0x addresses. Cronos POS Chain, formerly the Crypto.org Chain, is a separate Cosmos chain that also uses CRO but has addresses beginning with cro1. Cronos zkEVM is a third network, an Ethereum layer 2 with its own gas token. Each keeps its own balances.

Your Keylo address is the 0x form, which is identical on every EVM network. A withdrawal on Cronos POS needs a cro1 address and will not arrive at a 0x address; an exchange that lets you paste a 0x address under a POS label is a warning sign to stop and check. CRO also exists as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, which Keylo shows separately under Ethereum.

How to create a Cronos wallet with Keylo

Keylo is non-custodial. Its servers keep only the encrypted wallet and never see your password, phrase or keys, which means Keylo cannot move or recover your CRO. You can import a phrase from MetaMask or the Crypto.com Onchain wallet if it uses the standard Ethereum path for Cronos EVM. Phrases used only for Cronos POS cro1 accounts derive differently and may not show the same balance.

  1. 1

Head to create a wallet in a modern browser. There is no download or extension.

  2. 2

Enter your name, email, phone and a strong password, then confirm your email address.

  3. 3

Keylo generates your 12-word recovery phrase in the browser and encrypts it locally before anything leaves your device.

  4. 4

Open Cronos in your network list to see your CRO balance and 0x address.

  5. 5

Back up the phrase: reveal it in Settings with your password and write it down offline.

How to receive CRO on Cronos

Withdrawals from Crypto.com often require you to whitelist the address first, which can add a waiting period. That delay belongs to the exchange, not the chain. Once the transfer is on Cronos EVM, it is final as soon as its block is committed, because CometBFT does not reorganise blocks the way proof-of-work chains can.

  1. 1

Open CRO on the Cronos network and tap Receive.

  2. 2

Copy the 0x address or show the QR code. Keylo labels it with the Cronos network name.

  3. 3

In the Crypto.com app or another exchange, choose the Cronos EVM network for the withdrawal and paste the address.

  4. 4

Check Activity. Cronos blocks arrive in under a second, and each transaction links to the explorer.

How to move CRO from an exchange to Keylo

Exchanges set their own minimum withdrawal amounts and fees, which can be higher than the network fee itself. Those charges belong to the exchange, not to Cronos or Keylo. If a withdrawal shows as complete on the exchange but not in Keylo, look up the transaction hash on the Cronos explorer: if it shows your 0x address on Cronos EVM, the funds have arrived.

  1. 1

In Keylo, open CRO on the Cronos network, tap Receive and copy your 0x address.

  2. 2

In your exchange or the Crypto.com app, start a withdrawal of CRO to an external wallet.

  3. 3

Paste the address and pick the network called Cronos or Cronos EVM. If the form asks for a memo, you have probably selected Cronos POS instead.

  4. 4

Complete any whitelisting or security confirmation the exchange requires, and start with a small test amount.

  5. 5

Once the test arrives in Keylo's Activity, withdraw the rest.

How to send CRO

If you are sending to an exchange deposit address, use the deposit address the exchange shows for Cronos EVM specifically. Exchanges commonly reuse one 0x deposit address across EVM networks, but they only credit the networks they list, so CRO sent on a network the exchange does not support may need a lengthy recovery request.

  1. 1

Open CRO or a Cronos token and tap Send.

  2. 2

Paste or scan the recipient's 0x address. Keylo validates the checksum and flags contracts.

  3. 3

Enter an amount or tap Max, which reserves the network fee.

  4. 4

Select slow, normal or fast, then review the exact amount and the fee in CRO.

  5. 5

Confirm to sign the transaction in your browser and broadcast it.

Cronos gas fees

Every Cronos EVM transaction pays gas in CRO. The chain supports Ethereum's EIP-1559 fee format, with a base fee that adjusts to demand and an optional tip for validators. A simple CRO transfer uses 21,000 gas, and token transfers or swaps use more. Cronos lowered its gas prices substantially in 2025, so everyday transactions cost small fractions of a CRO.

Keylo's slow, normal and fast options set the tip and fee cap it offers, and with sub-second blocks the difference in speed is usually small. The review screen shows the network fee before you confirm, and Keylo adds no fee of its own to normal sends. Keep a little CRO in the wallet so you can always move your tokens.

Tokens on Cronos EVM

Tokens on Cronos follow the ERC-20 standard, sometimes called CRC-20 locally. Stablecoins such as USDC and USDT, wrapped CRO, wrapped ETH and ecosystem tokens from Cronos DEXs are common. Many of them are bridged from other chains, which means the same symbol can exist in more than one version on Cronos with different backing.

Before you buy or accept a token, search its contract on the Cronos explorer and compare it with the address published by the issuer or by Cronos itself. Airdropped tokens with links in their names, or tokens that promise rewards for visiting a site, are a common phishing route; ignore them rather than trying to sell them.

Swap or bridge CRO

Keylo routes Cronos EVM swaps and bridges through LI.FI, which compares Cronos DEXs with audited bridges to find a path. That lets you turn CRO into USDC on Cronos, or move funds to Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain or Arbitrum without going back through an exchange. The quote shows the route, expected output, minimum received and each fee, including any small service fee, before you sign. See swap and bridge.

Keylo shows a bridge's progress until it lands, and if a route cannot complete, the protocol refunds the sending wallet. Moving CRO to or from Cronos POS is a different operation that Keylo does not handle; that usually happens inside the Crypto.com app or with Cronos POS tools.

Cronos safety tips

  • Withdraw to Cronos EVM, not Cronos POS or Crypto.org Chain, when using your Keylo 0x address.
  • Treat messages offering CRO airdrops or staking boosts as scams unless they come from official channels.
  • Check token contract addresses on the explorer before trading.
  • Limit token approvals to amounts you need, and avoid unknown DEX links.
  • Keep your recovery phrase offline. Keylo's security page explains the account protections you can turn on.
  • Set an anti-phishing code so you can recognise genuine Keylo emails.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Cronos and Crypto.com?

Crypto.com is a company running an exchange and app. Cronos EVM is a public blockchain associated with that ecosystem, run by its own validators. Keylo is a separate, non-custodial wallet: you hold your own keys, so moving CRO from Crypto.com to Keylo means withdrawing it on the Cronos EVM network to your 0x address.

Can I send CRO from Cronos POS to my Keylo address?

Not directly. Cronos POS uses cro1 addresses and is a separate chain, while Keylo uses a 0x address on Cronos EVM. Use an exchange or Cronos POS tools that support moving CRO to the EVM chain, and make sure the final step is a Cronos EVM transfer to your 0x address.

How long does a Cronos transaction take?

Cronos EVM produces blocks in under a second, and a committed block is final. A send in Keylo usually confirms within a couple of seconds. Exchange withdrawals can take longer because of whitelisting, security holds or batch processing on the exchange side.

Is Cronos zkEVM the same as Cronos EVM?

No. Cronos zkEVM is a separate Ethereum layer 2 with its own gas token and balances. Keylo supports Cronos EVM, chain ID 25. Funds sent to your address on Cronos zkEVM are controlled by the same key but will not appear under Cronos in Keylo.

Do I need CRO to send USDC on Cronos?

Yes. Every transaction on Cronos EVM pays gas in CRO, including token transfers. If your CRO balance is zero, you cannot move your USDC. Keep a small amount of CRO in the wallet, or swap a little of your stablecoin into CRO while you still have gas.
