Metis Wallet: Use METIS for Gas, Hold m.USDC and Bridge Out

A Metis wallet holds METIS, the gas coin of Metis Andromeda, plus tokens like m.USDC, m.USDT and WETH. It uses your usual 0x address, but every fee is paid in METIS, the official bridge to Ethereum takes about a week, and Stargate ended its Metis support on October 23, 2026.

A Metis wallet is any Ethereum-style wallet that can hold METIS and tokens on Metis Andromeda, one of the oldest Ethereum layer 2 networks. It uses your ordinary 0x address. What sets it apart is the fee coin: every transaction on Andromeda pays gas in METIS, so ETH or stablecoins alone won't get you anywhere.

Two more things to know before you start. Stargate, once a popular route in and out, ended its Metis support on October 23, 2026. And the official bridge back to Ethereum takes about a week. Figures in this guide were checked on October 24, 2026.

How a Metis wallet works#

Andromeda went live in late 2021. It started as a fork of Optimism's early code and has followed its own path since. Today it posts transaction data to Ethereum as blobs, which it has done since May 2025.

Your Metis wallet address#

Your Metis wallet address is a standard 0x account, the same one you hold on Ethereum, Base or Arbitrum. In Keylo, every EVM network uses one address, derived on m/44'/60'/0'/0/0. So if you used Andromeda years ago with MetaMask, importing that phrase into Keylo brings back the same first address and its balance.

Nothing needs activating. There's no memo and no minimum balance, but each network still keeps its own balances, even though the address is shared.

METIS is the coin and a token at once#

On Andromeda, METIS pays gas. Metis's FAQ adds that it's also ERC-20 compatible as a built-in feature, so apps can treat it as a token without wrapping it. On chain, that token interface sits at 0xDeadDeAddeAddEAddeadDEaDDEAdDeaDDeAD0000. That's why some token lists show METIS twice. It's one balance, not two. A separate wrapped version, WMETIS (0x75cb093E4D61d2A2e65D8e0BBb01DE8d89b53481), also exists for some DEXs.

On Ethereum, METIS is just an ERC-20 token at 0x9E32b13ce7f2E80A01932B42553652E053D6ed8e. It can't pay Andromeda fees until you bridge it over. ETH is the reverse: on Andromeda it's a token at 0x420000000000000000000000000000000000000A, so it can't pay gas there.

Andromeda, not Hyperion#

Metis is also building Hyperion, a high-performance network that its docs say will coexist with Andromeda. It's a separate chain, and the docs list it as a testnet. Keylo supports Andromeda, chain ID 1088, so check that number whenever a site or exchange asks you to pick a Metis network.

How to choose a Metis wallet#

Plenty of EVM wallets handle Andromeda. The right one depends on how you plan to use it.

  • Extension and mobile wallets. MetaMask can add Andromeda in a click through Chainlist, which is where Metis's own docs send you. It connects to Metis DeFi apps.

  • Hardware wallets. Devices such as Trezor keep keys offline for larger holdings. Check that the wallet you pair it with supports Andromeda.

  • Exchange accounts. Easy for buying METIS. However, the exchange holds the keys and decides which networks you can withdraw on.

  • Web wallets. These run in a browser tab with no install. Keylo is one.

Whatever you choose, check four things. It should know chain ID 1088 out of the box, show the fee in METIS, keep METIS back when you send everything, and display token contracts. Those cover most of the ways people lose time on Andromeda.

Keylo suits holding and sending METIS and stablecoins, then swapping or bridging from the same phrase. On Andromeda it also lists your full transfer history and every token you hold. It doesn't suit Metis DeFi, because Keylo can't connect to dapps.

How to set up a Metis wallet in Keylo#

Andromeda is already listed in Keylo, so you won't paste an RPC address or chain ID.

  1. Open the sign-up page. Enter your full name, email, phone number and a password, then repeat the password. Accept the terms and choose Create account.

  2. Click the link in the confirmation email if Keylo asks you to check your inbox.

  3. Choose Create a new wallet. Keylo generates a 12-word recovery phrase in your browser, then locks it with a key derived from your password.

  4. Select Metis Andromeda in the asset list to see your 0x address and METIS balance.

  5. Write the phrase down. In Settings, choose Recovery phrase, type your password, copy the words onto paper and confirm the ones Keylo asks for.

  6. Before you fund it, switch on Two-factor authentication and set an Anti-phishing code.

Keylo can't recover a lost phrase. Its server only holds the encrypted copy, so a password reset gets you back into your account, and you then restore the wallet from your written words.

Bringing back an old Andromeda wallet#

If you tried Andromeda in its early years, your balance may still be there. Choose Import a recovery phrase and type the 12 or 24 words. The first account appears with its METIS, its tokens and its recent transfers. Accounts you added later in MetaMask sit on other paths and won't show, but nothing happens to their funds.

Open your Metis Andromeda address

Sign up with an email and a password. Keylo builds the wallet in your browser and keeps METIS aside for the fee when you send the maximum.

How to receive METIS on Andromeda#

  1. Tap Receive and pick Metis Andromeda. You'll see "Receive on Metis Andromeda" above a QR code.

  2. Share it with Copy or Share, or let the sender scan it.

  3. On an exchange, choose Metis or Andromeda as the network. If the only option is Ethereum (ERC-20), your METIS lands on Ethereum instead.

  4. Once the transfer confirms, it shows in your balance and in the Activity list on the Metis Andromeda page, with a link to the explorer.

A METIS withdrawal on Ethereum isn't a loss. It arrives at the same address, just on mainnet, and Keylo lists it under Ethereum. To use it as gas, bridge it to Andromeda, and pay that bridge fee in ETH on Ethereum.

How to send METIS and tokens on Andromeda#

  1. Tap Send and choose METIS or a token on Metis Andromeda.

  2. Paste or scan the address into To. Keylo checks the checksum, then warns you if the address is a contract.

  3. Enter the amount, or tap Max. For METIS, Keylo keeps enough back for the fee.

  4. Tap Review and pick Slow, Normal or Fast.

  5. Read the review screen: network, the full recipient address and the fee in METIS.

  6. Tap Send. After "On its way" and "Sent", a View on Metis Explorer link opens the transaction.

Sending a token from a wallet with no METIS stops at the review step, with a message that you need some METIS on Metis Andromeda to pay the network fee. Keylo also refuses sends to a token's own contract, a classic copy-and-paste slip.

Before sending METIS to an exchange, open its deposit page and confirm it accepts Andromeda for that token. Some exchanges take METIS only as an ERC-20 on Ethereum, and a deposit on the wrong network may never be credited.

Metis gas fees#

Andromeda fees are low, and you pay all of them in METIS. On October 24, 2026, the network's gas price was about 12 gwei. At that price, a token transfer works out to roughly 0.0008 METIS, about a third of a cent with METIS near $3.60.

Because the fee is in METIS, its dollar cost tracks METIS's price as well as network demand. Keylo shows the full fee in METIS on the review screen and adds nothing to a normal send.

Andromeda is rarely busy, so Slow usually goes through about as fast as Fast. If a transfer ever hangs, Speed up resends it with a higher fee. Keep a few METIS on Andromeda at all times, because running dry means waiting on someone else before you can move anything.

m.USDC, m.USDT and other tokens on Metis#

Andromeda tokens follow the ERC-20 standard. Keylo reads your holdings from the Andromeda explorer's index, so every token at your address shows up without any setup, including spam. Check every contract, because token names are free for anyone to copy. Settings, Networks, Custom tokens is still there for anything the index misses.

  • m.USDC 0xEA32A96608495e54156Ae48931A7c20f0dcc1a21 and m.USDT 0xbB06DCA3AE6887fAbF931640f67cab3e3a16F4dC are the stablecoins from Metis's official bridge. The "m." marks them as bridged from Ethereum.

  • WETH 0x420000000000000000000000000000000000000A is ETH on Andromeda.

  • USDe 0x5d3a1Ff2b6BAb83b63cd9AD0787074081a52ef34 is Ethena's synthetic dollar, which also lives on many other networks.

As of October 2026, neither Circle nor Tether lists Andromeda as a network it issues on, so every dollar token here is a bridged or synthetic version. That matters when you leave. A token minted by one bridge usually has to exit through that bridge, or through a swap into something that has a route.

Keylo's Metis Andromeda page also has a read-only Collectibles list of the NFTs your address holds. You can view them there, but not send or mint them.

Bridging to and from Metis after Stargate's exit#

Stargate v2 ended support for Metis on October 23, 2026, and LayerZero's default message services for the chain end on October 30, 2026. Holders of tokens from the official Metis bridge, such as m.USDC and m.USDT, aren't affected. If you still had liquidity in Stargate pools on Metis, or a token that moves over LayerZero, ask its issuer or LayerZero's support channels what route remains.

The official Metis bridge#

The official bridge at bridge.metis.io moves METIS and supported tokens between Ethereum and Andromeda. Deposits are the quick direction. Withdrawals to Ethereum wait out a seven-day challenge period, because Andromeda uses fraud proofs, and then you finish on Ethereum with gas paid in ETH. Keylo can't connect to that site, so use an extension wallet for it.

Bridging inside Keylo#

Keylo asks LI.FI for routes, which compares DEXs on Andromeda and the bridges that still serve it. Only a handful of bridges reach Metis, and Stargate has left, so expect a short list.

  1. Tap Swap. Under You pay, pick the network and token you're starting with.

  2. Under You receive, pick Metis Andromeda and METIS, so your first arrival pays for gas.

  3. Compare the routes, with their amounts, times and fees.

  4. Open the details and read Minimum you receive and Delivered to, your own Andromeda address.

  5. Approve the exact amount if you're spending a token, then confirm.

  6. Follow progress until the funds land.

A bridge either delivers or returns your funds, sometimes as a different token that still reaches your wallet. Any Keylo service fee is listed on its own. If no route shows up, the official bridge still works. The swap and bridge page explains routes, slippage and refunds.

What Keylo doesn't do on Metis#

  • No dapp connections. Keylo has no browser extension and no WalletConnect, so Andromeda DEXs, lending apps and the official bridge site are off limits.

  • No staking. Keylo can't lock METIS for sequencer or rewards programs. It stakes only on Cosmos SDK chains.

  • No NFT transfers. The Collectibles list is view-only, so sending or minting NFTs happens elsewhere.

  • No testnet for Metis in Keylo, no hardware wallets and no card purchases.

Keylo is non-custodial too. If both your password and your phrase are gone, nobody can open the wallet. All supported networks are on the networks page.

Metis risks, scams and mistakes to avoid#

Andromeda carries more trust than a full rollup. Metis says a pool of sequencers takes turns producing blocks, but on Ethereum the batches arrive from a single address, and nothing there proves the pool made them. Fraud proofs exist, yet only permissioned actors can open a dispute or delete a bad state root. Its contracts can also be upgraded without delay.

L2BEAT doesn't rate Metis even Stage 0. It also recorded a gap of more than five days in June 2026 when no state or data reached Ethereum. The L2BEAT Metis page tracks this.

Then come the usual scams:

  • Fake staking and airdrop sites. Sites promising METIS rewards ask you to connect and sign, then drain the wallet.

  • Retired bridge links. Old bookmarks and posts still point to Stargate routes for Metis. Check that a bridge supports Andromeda today before you send.

  • Copycat tokens. Match m.USDC and m.USDT by contract address, not by name.

  • Address poisoning. Look-alike addresses send you tiny transfers, hoping you copy one later. Always copy from the source.

Keylo staff never ask for your phrase or password. Contact them through the Keylo support page, and see how Keylo protects your wallet. Mantle is another layer 2 with its own gas coin, covered in the Mantle wallet guide. For mainnet itself, read the Ethereum wallet guide.

Metis wallet FAQ#

Do I pay gas in ETH or METIS on Metis Andromeda?

METIS. It's the only gas coin on Andromeda, and every transaction pays its fee in METIS, including transfers of WETH, m.USDC or m.USDT. ETH on Andromeda is a token, so it can't cover fees. Keep a few METIS on the network, and if you run out, ask for a small METIS transfer on Andromeda itself.

Is METIS on Ethereum the same as METIS on Andromeda?

It's the same asset on two networks, but it behaves differently. On Ethereum, METIS is an ERC-20 token that can't pay Andromeda fees. On Andromeda, it's the gas coin. The official bridge and other routes move it between the two, and because your address is shared, a METIS deposit on the wrong one still reaches you.

How long does a withdrawal from Metis to Ethereum take?

Through the official Metis bridge, about seven days. Andromeda uses fraud proofs, so a withdrawal waits out a challenge period before you can finish it on Ethereum, paying gas in ETH. Bridges that pay out from their own liquidity, such as many routes Keylo finds through LI.FI, usually take minutes, though only a few of them serve Metis.

Does Stargate still support Metis?

No. Stargate v2 ended support for Metis Andromeda on October 23, 2026, citing low activity, and LayerZero's default message services for the chain end on October 30, 2026. Tokens from the official Metis bridge, such as m.USDC and m.USDT, are unaffected. For other routes, use the official bridge or the bridges that LI.FI still finds.

What are m.USDC and m.USDT?

They're USDC and USDT bridged from Ethereum through Metis's official bridge. The "m." prefix marks the bridged versions, which live at their own Andromeda contracts. Circle and Tether don't issue directly on Andromeda. Both tokens aim to stay at one dollar, and you need METIS for gas to send them.

What is the difference between Metis Andromeda and Hyperion?

Andromeda is Metis's established layer 2, live since 2021, with chain ID 1088. Hyperion is a newer high-performance chain that Metis says will coexist with Andromeda, and its docs list it as a testnet. They're separate networks with separate balances. Keylo supports Andromeda only, so pick chain ID 1088 when you withdraw for use in Keylo.

What is the Metis sequencer pool?

It's Metis's alternative to a single sequencer. Whitelisted operators who lock METIS are picked by stake to produce blocks, agree through a consensus process, and sign batches together for Ethereum. It spreads block production across several parties. On Ethereum, though, the batches arrive from one address, so nothing there proves the pool produced them.
