World Chain Wallet: Send WLD and ETH Outside World App
Updated , 8 minute read
A World Chain wallet holds ETH, WLD and other tokens on World Chain, the OP Stack layer 2 built for World's proof-of-personhood network. Any 0x wallet can use it and pays fees in ETH, while World App users with a verified World ID get priority blockspace and a gas allowance. Keylo gives you a self-custodial World Chain address you can send WLD to from World App or an exchange, and lets you swap and bridge from there.

What is World Chain?
World Chain is an Ethereum layer 2 that went live in October 2024 to serve World, the project formerly called Worldcoin, and its World App. It runs on the OP Stack and is part of the Superchain. World's idea is proof of personhood: people verify that they are a unique human with a device called the Orb and receive a World ID, which apps can check without learning who the person is.
World Chain builds that into the network. Priority blockspace for humans reserves part of each block for transactions that carry a valid World ID proof, so verified people are not outbid by bots during busy periods. Verified World App users also receive a periodic gas allowance that covers routine transactions. Everyone else can still use the chain normally; verification is a perk, not a requirement.
Most activity comes from World App: claiming and moving WLD, small payments, mini apps and stablecoin transfers. Today the chain still uses permissioned fault proofs, meaning a small whitelist of parties can propose and challenge state, so independent trackers do not yet rate it at Stage 0. That is a trust assumption worth knowing if you hold large amounts there.
Your Keylo address versus your World App address
On World Chain your Keylo address is a normal 0x account derived from your recovery phrase, identical to your Keylo address on Ethereum and every other EVM network. There is no activation step, no minimum balance and no memo. Keylo validates the mixed-case checksum before sending and shows the network name, World Chain, next to the address so you always know which ledger you are looking at.
World App works differently. Its built-in wallet is a smart contract account managed by the app, with backups handled through the app rather than a 12-word phrase you write down. That means your World App address and your Keylo address are different, and you cannot simply import World App into Keylo. To move funds, send them from World App to your Keylo World Chain address like any other transfer.
Be careful in the other direction too. A smart contract account only exists on the networks where it has been deployed. Sending to a World App address on a network where that account does not exist can leave the funds unreachable from the app, so send to World App addresses only on World Chain unless the app tells you otherwise.
Create a World Chain wallet in Keylo
- 1
Open the Keylo sign-up page in any modern browser.
- 2
Enter your name, email, phone and password, then confirm your email address.
- 3
Keylo creates a 12-word recovery phrase in your browser and encrypts it locally with a key derived from your password. Keylo never sees it.
- 4
Back up the phrase in Settings after re-entering your password, and keep it offline.
- 5
Choose World Chain in the network list to see your 0x address and balances.
How to send WLD from World App to Keylo
Why bother moving funds out of World App at all? A Keylo wallet is self-custodial and portable: your recovery phrase restores it in any standard wallet, it works in any browser, and it reaches dozens of other networks from the same phrase. Many people keep a small balance in World App for its gas allowance and mini apps, and hold savings or trading funds in a separate wallet like Keylo.
- 1
In Keylo, open World Chain, tap WLD or ETH and tap Receive. Copy the address, which is labeled World Chain.
- 2
In World App, choose to send the token and paste your Keylo address.
- 3
If World App asks for a network, choose World Chain.
- 4
Send a small amount first and confirm it appears in Keylo's Activity.
- 5
Send the rest once the test arrives.
How to send ETH or WLD from Keylo on World Chain
The contract warning is expected when you send to a World App address on World Chain, because those accounts are smart contracts. It is a prompt to double-check the network, not an error. Sending to a World App address on World Chain is the normal case; sending to it on a network where the account was never deployed is the risky one.
- 1
Open World Chain in Keylo and pick the asset.
- 2
Paste the destination address or scan its QR code. Keylo checks the checksum and warns you about contract addresses, which matters because World App accounts are contracts.
- 3
Enter an amount or tap Max; Keylo keeps enough ETH for the fee.
- 4
Select a fee speed and review the summary showing the network fee and exact amount.
- 5
Confirm to sign the transaction in your browser.
World Chain fees and the verified human gas allowance
World Chain uses the OP Stack fee model with ETH as gas. You pay an execution fee, gas used multiplied by an EIP-1559 base fee plus a priority tip, and an L1 data fee for posting your transaction to Ethereum as blob data. The network added a minimum base fee in 2026, so costs do not fall all the way to zero during quiet periods, but simple transfers remain very cheap.
The gas allowance and priority blockspace apply to transactions from World App by people with a verified World ID. Transactions from Keylo, like those from any standard wallet, use regular blockspace and pay the normal fee from your ETH balance. That is why a Keylo World Chain address needs a little ETH even if you only plan to hold WLD.
Keylo shows the network fee before you confirm and adds nothing to normal sends. If you only have WLD and no ETH, use a swap to get a small amount of ETH first, or withdraw some ETH from an exchange on World Chain.
Tokens on World Chain: WLD, USDC and more
World Chain supports ERC-20 tokens, which Keylo can show and send. The main ones are WLD, USDC, wrapped ETH and tokens from World App's mini apps. As with any network, token contracts on World Chain have their own addresses; WLD on World Chain is a different contract from WLD on Ethereum or OP Mainnet, even though they represent the same asset.
WLD grants and claims attract scams. Fake World ID verification sites, fake grant claims and copycat WLD tokens are common, and some ask you to sign messages that hand over token approvals. Real World grants happen inside World App. If a website asks for a recovery phrase or a blanket approval to receive WLD, it is not legitimate.
Swap and bridge on World Chain, and withdrawals
Keylo supports swap and bridge on World Chain through LI.FI, which compares decentralized exchanges and audited bridges, and THORChain for native cross-chain swaps. You can swap WLD for ETH or USDC, or bridge ETH in from another network. Every quote shows the route, expected output, minimum received and all fees, including any small service fee, and failed cross-chain routes are refunded by the protocol to your sending wallet.
The official bridge follows OP Stack rules: deposits from Ethereum arrive in minutes, while withdrawals need a prove step on Ethereum, a challenge window of about seven days, and a finalize step on Ethereum, each costing mainnet gas. Liquidity bridges in Keylo's routes usually deliver within minutes instead, because a relayer pays you on the other side.
If you mainly want WLD on an exchange, check whether it accepts WLD deposits on World Chain. Many exchanges list WLD on Ethereum or OP Mainnet only, in which case bridging first avoids a deposit the exchange cannot credit. Bridging WLD from World Chain to OP Mainnet is usually quick and cheap through a liquidity route, and from there most exchanges that list WLD can take the deposit.
World Chain safety tips
- Send to World App addresses on World Chain only; they are smart contract accounts.
- Match the network for WLD at exchanges: World Chain, OP Mainnet and Ethereum are all different.
- Keep ETH on your Keylo World Chain address; the free gas allowance is for verified World App users.
- Ignore fake World ID, Orb and WLD grant sites. Real grants happen in World App.
- Test with a small amount before moving a large balance between World App and Keylo.
- Learn how Keylo protects your keys on the security page.
Frequently asked questions
Can I import my World App wallet into Keylo?
Not directly. World App's wallet is a smart contract account backed up through the app, not a standard 12-word phrase. Instead, create or open your Keylo wallet, copy your Keylo World Chain address and send WLD or ETH to it from World App. Both wallets can then hold funds on World Chain independently.
Do I get free gas on World Chain with Keylo?
No. World Chain's gas allowance and priority blockspace are for transactions from World App users with a verified World ID. Transactions sent from Keylo use regular blockspace and pay a normal network fee in ETH, which is usually very small. Keep a little ETH in your Keylo World Chain balance to cover it.
Which network should I use to withdraw WLD from an exchange?
Use the network you want the WLD to arrive on. If the exchange lists World Chain and you want it there, pick World Chain. If you choose Ethereum or Optimism, the WLD arrives at your same address on that network, where Keylo shows it under Ethereum or OP Mainnet, and you can bridge it later.
How long does it take to withdraw from World Chain to Ethereum?
With the official OP Stack bridge, about seven days: you start on World Chain, prove the withdrawal on Ethereum, wait out the challenge window and finalize on Ethereum. Liquidity bridges available through Keylo's quote screen usually complete in minutes for a fee shown before you confirm.
Do I need a World ID to use World Chain?
No. Any 0x wallet can hold assets, send transactions and use apps on World Chain. A verified World ID only adds benefits such as priority blockspace and a gas allowance inside World App. Without one, you simply pay normal ETH fees, as you would on any other layer 2.
