Fraxtal Wallet: Pay Gas in FRAX, Hold frxUSD and Bridge Safely

A Fraxtal wallet is any EVM wallet that holds FRAX, frxUSD and other tokens on Fraxtal, the layer 2 run by Frax. It uses your usual 0x address, but fees are paid in FRAX, the token once called FXS. Keep a little FRAX there, check contract addresses, and expect a seven-day wait on the official bridge out.

A Fraxtal wallet is an EVM wallet that holds FRAX, frxUSD and other tokens on Fraxtal, the layer 2 network that Frax Finance built on the OP Stack. Your address is the same 0x address you use on Ethereum. What changes is the gas: every Fraxtal fee is paid in FRAX, so you need a little of it on Fraxtal before you can move anything.

The other hurdle is names. FRAX used to be a stablecoin, and the token now called FRAX used to be FXS. If you mix those up, you can buy the wrong asset or deposit to an exchange that won't credit it. Once the names are clear, Fraxtal is cheap and quick to use. Figures are as of October 2026.

How a Fraxtal wallet works#

Fraxtal runs Ethereum's account model, so the key behind your Ethereum address controls the same address on Fraxtal. Keylo derives it on the standard EVM path, m/44'/60'/0'/0/0, which MetaMask also uses for its first account. You don't activate anything, and there's no memo or reserve.

Your Fraxtal wallet address#

The address matches, but the balances don't. FRAX or FXS in your Ethereum account isn't on Fraxtal until it crosses a bridge, and frxUSD on Arbitrum is a different balance from frxUSD on Fraxtal. Keylo lists Fraxtal as its own network with its own balances, so you can always tell which chain a token is on.

On Fraxtal, the native balance is FRAX. ETH and frxETH are ordinary tokens there, so they can't pay fees, even though Fraxtal launched in 2024 with frxETH as its gas.

FRAX, FXS, frxUSD and LFRAX#

Frax renamed its main tokens, but old guides and some contracts still use the earlier names. Here's how they line up today:

  • FRAX is Frax's main token and Fraxtal's gas coin, and locking it as veFRAX gives voting power. It used to be FXS. Bridging FXS from Ethereum to Fraxtal through Frax's official bridge gives you native FRAX, but the Ethereum contract still reports the FXS ticker, and so do some apps and exchanges.

  • frxUSD is Frax's dollar stablecoin. Frax says it's fully backed by tokenized US Treasury funds and redeemable one to one for dollars at partner institutions.

  • LFRAX is the legacy Frax stablecoin. If an old wallet shows a "FRAX" balance worth about a dollar per token, this is probably what you hold.

  • frxETH is Frax's ETH token, worth roughly one ETH.

When a balance looks wrong, check the contract address on Fraxscan rather than trusting the ticker.

How to choose a Fraxtal wallet#

Since Fraxtal is EVM-equivalent, any EVM wallet can hold its tokens once it has the network details.

  • Extension and mobile wallets. MetaMask is a browser extension and mobile app that can add Fraxtal as a custom network. Rabby is a browser extension built for EVM networks. Either can connect to Frax's own apps, such as its swap and lending sites.

  • Hardware wallets. A device such as a Ledger keeps keys offline and pairs with one of those software wallets for signing.

  • Exchange accounts. The exchange controls the keys, so check whether yours even lists Fraxtal as a deposit network before you rely on it.

  • Web wallets. These open in a browser tab without an install. Keylo works this way.

A good Fraxtal wallet shows FRAX as the native coin instead of assuming ETH, lets you add tokens by contract, and displays the fee before you sign. If you plan to lock FRAX or use Fraxlend, you'll need one that connects to apps.

Keylo suits holding FRAX and frxUSD on Fraxtal, sending them and swapping or bridging from one recovery phrase. It isn't built for Frax's DeFi apps or for locking FRAX, because Keylo can't connect to dapps.

How to create a Fraxtal wallet in Keylo#

Fraxtal is already on Keylo's network list, so there's no chain ID or RPC to enter.

  1. Head to Keylo's registration page and fill in Full name, Email, Phone number, Password and Confirm password. Accept the terms, then tap Create account.

  2. Confirm your email if a "Check your inbox" message appears.

  3. Under "Set up your wallet", choose Create a new wallet. Keylo creates a 12-word phrase inside your browser and encrypts it with your password before anything reaches its server.

  4. Select Fraxtal in the asset list. Your 0x address and FRAX balance appear there.

  5. Back up the words now. In Settings, tap Recovery phrase, re-enter your password, copy the 12 words onto paper and confirm the ones Keylo asks for.

  6. Add Two-factor authentication and an Anti-phishing code in Settings as well.

Keylo never sees your phrase, password or keys. That also means it can't rescue a wallet whose phrase and password are both gone, so store the paper copy somewhere safe.

Using a phrase you already have#

If you've used Fraxtal through MetaMask, choose Import a recovery phrase and type your 12 or 24 words. Your first MetaMask account appears with the same Fraxtal balance. Accounts you added later sit on other paths and won't show up in Keylo.

Fraxtal has a public testnet on Hoodi, but Keylo doesn't include it. Fees are so low that a tiny real transfer works as practice.

How to receive FRAX and frxUSD on Fraxtal#

  1. Tap Receive and pick Fraxtal. The screen shows "Receive on Fraxtal", a QR code and "Your Fraxtal address".

  2. Use Copy or Share, or show the QR code to the sender.

  3. Tell the sender to choose Fraxtal as the network. If they withdraw from an exchange, the network list must say Fraxtal, not Ethereum.

  4. Watch your Fraxtal balance in Keylo. Blocks come every couple of seconds, so a direct transfer shows up quickly. Activity on Fraxtal lists only what you send from Keylo, so check deposits on the balance or on Fraxscan.

Keylo's Receive screen showing a Fraxtal address and QR code
Keylo's Receive screen for Fraxtal

Keylo's Receive screen notes that this address is the same on every EVM network. If someone sends frxUSD on Ethereum by mistake, it isn't lost. It sits at your address on Ethereum, and you can bridge it over. On Fraxtal, Keylo doesn't detect frxUSD on its own, so add it once as a custom token (see the address table below).

If your exchange doesn't offer Fraxtal withdrawals, withdraw USDC or ETH on a network it supports. Then use Keylo's swap screen to bridge into FRAX on Fraxtal.

How to send FRAX and tokens on Fraxtal#

  1. Tap Send and choose FRAX or a token on Fraxtal.

  2. Paste or scan the address into To. Keylo validates the format and checksum.

  3. Enter the amount, or tap Max, which keeps a sliver of FRAX back for the fee.

  4. Tap Review and choose Slow, Normal or Fast.

  5. Check the network, the recipient and the fee in FRAX on the review screen.

  6. Tap Send. The status moves from "On its way" to "Sent", and View on fraxscan opens the transaction.

Warnings you may see#

Keylo simulates each Fraxtal transfer before you sign, so one that would revert never costs a fee. It also speaks up when:

  • The recipient is a contract. Vaults, pools and token contracts can't always handle a plain transfer, and tokens sent there are often lost.

  • You paste a token's own contract. Keylo blocks sending frxUSD to the frxUSD contract, for example.

  • The address belongs to another chain. Bitcoin, Solana and other non-EVM addresses get an error instead of a send.

  • You have no FRAX. A token transfer stops with the gas message above.

Exchanges deserve extra care on Fraxtal. Before you send FRAX or frxUSD to one, confirm its deposit page lists Fraxtal for that exact token, because an exchange may credit FRAX only on Ethereum, possibly still under the FXS name.

Fraxtal gas fees#

Fraxtal uses the OP Stack fee model with FRAX in place of ETH. Each transaction pays an execution fee (gas used times the base fee plus a small tip) and a data fee for publishing its data. Because that data goes to FraxtalDA instead of Ethereum blobs, the data fee stays tiny, and Keylo includes it in the fee it shows.

So the result is close to free. On October 24, 2026, the base fee was a few hundred wei, far below a millionth of a gwei, and the network's suggested tip was 0.001 gwei. Fraxscan's gas tracker put token transfers and swaps at under $0.000001 in execution gas, with FRAX at $0.26. With the data fee added, a plain transfer works out to a few millionths of a FRAX.

That means the fee level you pick rarely matters. Slow, Normal and Fast all confirm within seconds and cost almost nothing. If a transfer ever gets stuck, tap Speed up on its status screen to resend it with a higher fee. Keylo doesn't add a charge to normal sends.

Fraxtal also has a points program called Flox, which hands out FXTL points each week based on gas-weighted activity. Frax sets and changes the rules, so check its own pages before you chase points.

Frax tokens on Fraxtal and their addresses#

Frax placed its core tokens at short, easy-to-recognize addresses on Fraxtal. These come from Frax's token list:

Token

Fraxtal address

FRAX

Native coin, no contract

WFRAX (wrapped FRAX)

0xfc00000000000000000000000000000000000002

frxUSD

0xfc00000000000000000000000000000000000001

sfrxUSD

0xfc00000000000000000000000000000000000008

frxETH

0xfc00000000000000000000000000000000000006

sfrxETH

0xfc00000000000000000000000000000000000005

The "s" versions are staked forms. sfrxUSD earns a share of the yield behind frxUSD, and sfrxETH does the same for ETH staking, so each one slowly gains value against its base token. Rates vary and aren't guaranteed.

Keylo spots a few common tokens on Fraxtal by itself, such as WETH and WBTC, but not Frax's own tokens. Add each one once: go to Settings, Networks, Custom tokens, tap Add token, choose Fraxtal, paste the address from the table and enter 18 decimals.

How to bridge to and from Fraxtal#

Fraxtal has three main ways in and out, and they differ a lot in speed.

  • The OP Stack bridge at Frax's site carries any token between Ethereum and Fraxtal. Deposits arrive in under an hour. Withdrawals take seven days, and then you claim them on Ethereum with a transaction that costs ETH.

  • Frax Mesh moves Frax's own tokens (FRAX, frxUSD, sfrxUSD, frxETH and sfrxETH) between Fraxtal, Ethereum and other chains in under a minute. You start it on Frax's website, which needs a wallet that connects to apps.

  • Keylo's swap screen gets routes from LI.FI, which compares bridges and exchanges and pays out from liquidity on the other side.

To bridge in Keylo:

  1. Tap Swap and choose what you're spending under You pay.

  2. Under You receive, pick Fraxtal and FRAX (or frxUSD).

  3. Compare routes by amount, time, fees and the least you'll get.

  4. Open the details to see each step, Minimum you receive and Delivered to, your own Fraxtal address.

  5. Confirm and watch the tracker until the funds arrive.

Slippage defaults to 0.5%, and any Keylo service fee shows as its own line in the quote. A bridge either delivers or returns your funds, sometimes as a different token that still lands in your wallet. The Keylo swap and bridge page covers this in more detail.

Pick FRAX as the output of your first bridge, because frxUSD alone can't move without gas. A little FRAX gets you started right away.

What Keylo doesn't do on Fraxtal#

  • No staking or locking. Keylo stakes only on Cosmos SDK chains, so it can't lock FRAX for veFRAX or stake into sfrxUSD through Frax's app. It can still hold and send sfrxUSD and sfrxETH you got elsewhere.

  • No dapp connections. Without an extension or WalletConnect, Keylo can't use Fraxswap, Fraxlend, Frax Mesh or other Fraxtal apps.

  • No official-bridge claims. You can't start or claim an OP Stack bridge withdrawal from Keylo, so that needs a wallet that connects to Frax's bridge. LI.FI routes in Keylo skip the seven-day wait instead.

  • No NFTs, hardware wallets, testnet or card purchases.

Keylo holds no keys for you. If both your password and phrase are lost, the wallet can't be restored by anyone. The list of Keylo networks shows what else the same phrase covers.

Fraxtal risks and scams to avoid#

On Fraxtal, the biggest risks are name mix-ups and the trust you place in Frax as the operator.

  • Wrong token, right ticker. A "FRAX" token on another chain could be the legacy stablecoin, and the governance token may show as FXS. Compare contracts before you buy, swap or deposit.

  • Copycat Frax tokens. Anyone can deploy a token called frxUSD, so match it against the addresses above.

  • Phishing. Fake Frax sites and airdrop claims ask you to connect and sign. Keylo can't sign for websites, and no real claim needs your recovery phrase.

  • Fake support. Keylo staff never request your phrase or password. Contact them through the Keylo help page, and see Keylo's security measures for two-factor and anti-phishing settings.

Know the security model too. L2BEAT lists Fraxtal under "Others" because it has no working proof system: you trust a permissioned proposer to post correct state. Transaction data sits on FraxtalDA, with only an IPFS reference on Ethereum. A 3-of-5 multisig can upgrade core contracts without delay, and L2BEAT logged gaps of several hours in state updates in October 2026. So keep the amount you hold on Fraxtal in line with how much you trust Frax.

Quick checks before a real transfer:

  1. The phrase is written down and confirmed in Keylo.

  2. You hold some FRAX on Fraxtal for fees.

  3. The token contract matches Frax's official list.

  4. The exchange or recipient accepts that token on Fraxtal.

  5. A small test went through first.

Fraxtal is one of several EVM networks your phrase covers. The Ethereum wallet guide and the Optimism wallet guide explain two others built the same way.

Hold FRAX and frxUSD in a wallet only you control

Keylo encrypts your phrase in your browser and never sees it. Send, swap and bridge on Fraxtal and dozens of other networks.

Fraxtal wallet FAQ#

What is the gas token on Fraxtal?

FRAX, the token formerly called FXS. Every transaction on Fraxtal, including a frxUSD or frxETH transfer, pays its fee in FRAX. Fraxtal launched with frxETH as gas, but frxETH and ETH are ordinary tokens there now. Fees are tiny, so one FRAX lasts a long time, but without any FRAX on Fraxtal you can't move other tokens.

Is FRAX a stablecoin?

Not anymore. FRAX is now the name of Frax's main token and Fraxtal's gas coin, which was called FXS before the rename, so its price floats. Frax's dollar stablecoin is frxUSD, and the original FRAX stablecoin is now listed as LFRAX. Because old contracts keep their symbols, check the contract address before you trade.

What is frxUSD?

frxUSD is Frax's dollar stablecoin. Frax says it's fully backed by tokenized US Treasury funds and can be minted and redeemed one to one through partner institutions. On Fraxtal its contract is 0xfc00000000000000000000000000000000000001. You can hold and send it in Keylo after adding it as a custom token, and you'll need FRAX for the fee.

Why can't I send my frxUSD on Fraxtal?

Almost always because you have no FRAX on Fraxtal. Every transfer pays its fee in FRAX, so frxUSD on its own can't move. Bridge a little FRAX in with Keylo's swap screen, or ask someone to send you some on Fraxtal. Once you hold even a fraction of a FRAX, the transfer will go through.

How long does it take to withdraw from Fraxtal to Ethereum?

On the OP Stack bridge, seven days, followed by a claim on Ethereum that costs ETH. Frax Mesh moves Frax's own tokens in under a minute but needs a wallet that connects to Frax's site. LI.FI routes in Keylo's swap screen usually finish within minutes and show their time and fees before you confirm.

Is FXS the same token as FRAX now?

Yes. Frax's docs list the old FXS contract on Ethereum, 0x3432B6A60D23Ca0dFCa7761B7ab56459D9C964D0, as FRAX, and bridging it to Fraxtal through Frax's official bridge gives you native FRAX one to one. That Ethereum contract still reports the FXS ticker, so some exchanges and older apps say FXS. On Fraxtal it's the native gas coin, and WFRAX is its wrapped form for apps.

Why can't I stake FRAX in Keylo?

Keylo offers staking only on Cosmos SDK chains, and it can't connect to Frax's apps to lock FRAX or mint sfrxUSD. You can still hold and send sfrxUSD or sfrxETH you got elsewhere, since they're ordinary tokens. To lock FRAX or mint staked tokens, use a wallet that connects to Frax's site.

Is Fraxtal safe to use?

It works well for everyday transfers, but it asks for more trust than a full rollup. L2BEAT notes there's no working proof system, data lives on Frax's own storage rather than Ethereum, and a multisig can upgrade contracts instantly. Frax has run DeFi products for years, but it still makes sense to size your Fraxtal balance to your trust in Frax.
