Mode Wallet Guide: Send, Swap and Bridge ETH on Mode Network

Updated , 8 minute read

A Mode wallet holds ETH, MODE and other tokens on Mode Network, an OP Stack layer 2 that grew around DeFi and later refocused on AI-driven finance apps. It uses the same 0x address as Ethereum and pays fees in ETH, while MODE is a governance and incentive token. Keylo lets you receive, send, swap and bridge on Mode in your browser.

What is Mode Network?

Mode is an Ethereum layer 2 built on the OP Stack and launched in early 2024, with infrastructure run through Conduit. It started as a DeFi network with an unusual developer incentive called sequencer fee sharing: app developers could register their contracts and receive part of the fees their users paid, rewarding builders for real usage instead of only through grants.

The MODE token launched in May 2024 for governance and incentives. Since then the project has repositioned around what it calls AIFi, meaning onchain AI agents and AI-assisted trading tools, including an AI terminal and a perpetual futures exchange. Those apps run on Mode like any other smart contracts, so a standard wallet can interact with them.

Mode used to share Superchain governance with OP Mainnet. In September 2026 it moved its upgrade controls to multisigs run by Conduit and left Superchain governance. Independent trackers also note that its fault proof system is not functional, so withdrawals depend on a permissioned proposer posting correct state. It is a smaller network than when it launched, so check liquidity before large trades.

How addresses work on Mode

Mode is EVM-equivalent, so your account is the 0x address derived from your recovery phrase, identical to your address on Ethereum and every other EVM network in Keylo. No activation, minimum balance or memo is needed, and Keylo validates the checksum before sending.

AI agent apps sometimes create separate accounts for an agent to trade from, often smart contract wallets or new addresses the app controls. Funds you hand to an agent account are no longer at your personal address, so read how the app lets you withdraw before depositing. Your Keylo address only shows balances that sit at your own account.

As always with shared addresses, the network matters. ETH sent to your address on Ethereum or Base stays on that network until you bridge it to Mode. Nothing is lost when that happens; Keylo simply shows the balance under the network where it landed, and a bridge quote can move it to Mode when you are ready.

Create a Mode wallet in Keylo

  1. 1

Open Keylo's sign-up page in a browser on any device.

  2. 2

Register with your name, email, phone and password, then confirm your email address.

  3. 3

Keylo creates a 12-word recovery phrase in your browser and encrypts it with a key derived from your password. The server only receives the encrypted copy.

  4. 4

Back up your phrase in Settings after re-entering your password. Keep it offline.

  5. 5

Choose Mode in the network list to see your address and balances.

How to receive ETH on Mode

  1. 1

Open Mode in Keylo and select ETH, MODE or another token.

  2. 2

Tap Receive. Your 0x address, QR code and the Mode label appear.

  3. 3

Share the address with the sender, and ask them to use the Mode network.

  4. 4

If an exchange does not list Mode as a withdrawal network, withdraw to Ethereum, Base or OP Mainnet and bridge with Keylo.

  5. 5

Watch Activity for the deposit, with links to the Mode explorer.

How to send ETH on Mode

Sending to an agent or vault contract is different from sending to a person. Use the app's own deposit flow, which records your share, rather than transferring tokens straight to a contract address. A plain transfer to a contract may not be credited to you at all, and Keylo's contract warning is there to make you pause before doing it.

  1. 1

Select Mode in Keylo and choose the asset.

  2. 2

Paste or scan the recipient address. Keylo checks the checksum and warns if it is a contract.

  3. 3

Enter an amount or tap Max, which leaves ETH for the fee.

  4. 4

Pick slow, normal or fast. Mode is rarely congested.

  5. 5

Check the summary with the network fee and exact amount, then confirm.

How fees work on Mode

Mode follows the OP Stack fee model with ETH as gas. Each transaction pays an execution fee, gas used times an EIP-1559 base fee plus a priority tip, and an L1 data fee for posting compressed data to Ethereum as blobs. A plain transfer usually costs a tiny amount, and the data part rises and falls with Ethereum's blob prices.

Sequencer fee sharing does not change what you pay. It changes where part of the network fee goes, sending a share to the developers of the contracts you used. From your point of view the fee is the same as on any OP Stack chain, and Keylo shows the total in ETH before you confirm. Keylo adds nothing to normal sends.

AI agents can send many small transactions on your behalf, and each one pays gas. If you fund an agent, budget for those fees and check the app's reporting, so a stream of tiny costs does not surprise you. Agents that trade actively may also pay swap fees and price impact on every trade, which usually matter more than the gas itself.

Tokens on Mode: MODE, stablecoins and LRTs

Mode supports ERC-20 tokens, which Keylo can show and send. Common ones include MODE, wrapped ETH, bridged stablecoins such as USDC and USDT, and liquid restaking tokens that earned points during Mode's early DeFi campaigns. Each has its own contract on Mode, different from the same asset on Ethereum, so confirm contracts on the Mode explorer.

Points programs and AI hype attract scams: fake MODE claims, fake agent tokens and tools promising guaranteed trading profits. No legitimate app can guarantee returns, and none needs your recovery phrase. Ignore unexpected tokens and links, and approve only the amounts an action actually requires.

Swap and bridge on Mode

Since few exchanges serve Mode directly, Keylo's swap and bridge screen is often the easiest way in and out. It pulls routes from LI.FI, which compares decentralized exchanges and audited bridges, and from THORChain for native assets like BTC. Read the quote before confirming: it shows the path your funds take, the expected output, the minimum you will receive and each fee, including any small service fee. Bridges can be tracked to arrival, and the protocol refunds the sending wallet if a cross-chain route cannot complete.

The official Mode bridge uses OP Stack withdrawals: deposits from Ethereum arrive in minutes, while withdrawals require proving on Ethereum, about seven days of waiting and a final step on Ethereum, both paid in mainnet ETH. Liquidity routes are usually faster and cheaper for everyday amounts.

On a smaller network, liquidity can be thin. Before swapping a large amount, check the minimum received in the quote and consider bridging to a bigger network and swapping there if the price impact looks high. Splitting a large trade into smaller ones rarely helps on thin pools; moving to where the liquidity is usually does.

Getting ETH onto Mode for the first time

Because few exchanges withdraw directly to Mode, most people arrive by bridge. The simplest path is to withdraw ETH from an exchange to a large network such as Base, Arbitrum or OP Mainnet, where withdrawals are cheap and widely supported, and then use Keylo's bridge to move it to the same address on Mode. The quote shows how long the route takes and what you receive.

Bridge a little more ETH than you plan to use in apps, so you have gas left for withdrawals, approvals and the trip back out. If you only bridge a stablecoin, you will have nothing to pay fees with on arrival. Mode's past is a useful reminder of operator power, too: in 2024 its team used a bridge contract upgrade to recover ETH that a DeFi protocol had lost on Mode, which helped the affected users but shows that upgrade keys can change how the bridge behaves.

Mode safety tips

  • Read how an AI agent app holds your funds before depositing.
  • Use app deposit flows, not plain transfers, for vaults and agents.
  • Keep ETH on Mode for gas; MODE cannot pay fees.
  • Check price impact on swaps; liquidity on Mode can be thin.
  • Revoke approvals left from points campaigns.
  • Understand the trust model: upgrades are controlled by operator multisigs. Read how Keylo protects you for your side of security.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need MODE tokens to use Mode Network?

No. Mode charges all network fees in ETH. MODE is the network's governance and incentive token, which you can hold and send in Keylo but cannot use for gas. Keep a small ETH balance on Mode so you can move MODE and any other tokens you hold there.

What is sequencer fee sharing on Mode?

It is Mode's system for rewarding developers. Teams register their smart contracts, and part of the network fees paid by users of those contracts goes back to the developers. It does not change what you pay as a user; it only changes how the fees you already pay are distributed.

How long does a withdrawal from Mode to Ethereum take?

Through the official OP Stack bridge, about seven days, with a prove step and a finalize step on Ethereum that cost mainnet gas. Liquidity bridges available through Keylo's quote screen usually deliver within minutes, with all fees shown before you confirm.

Is Mode still part of the Superchain?

Mode left Superchain governance in September 2026, moving its upgrade controls to multisigs operated by Conduit, its infrastructure provider. It still runs the OP Stack, so wallets and bridges work the same way, and your 0x address and ETH gas are unchanged.

Are AI trading agents on Mode safe?

They are smart contracts and apps like any other, with the same risks: bugs, bad strategies, and permissions that let the app move your funds. No agent can guarantee profits. Start small, read how withdrawals work, keep approvals limited and never share your recovery phrase with any tool or support account.
